One-Minute Writing of the Day:
Writer: Fanny Fanackapan
Cake - Why? Because every morning you turn up for work and there is a fresh batch of cakes to sell. People only come into the shop if they want cake, so are always happy. At the end of the day, you clear away the old cake and feed it to the birds. You never have to take a briefcase full of old cake home so you can catch up on your work. Next morning - New cakes.
Congratulations, Fanny! I love your store idea, and I'll be your first regular customer. Feel free to put a One Minute Writer WINNER! button on your beautiful new blog!

If I owned a store, it would have to involve something of interest to me.
It is a toss up between a book store or family oriented wares. Things that would bring a family closer.
In these difficult economic times, wouldn't it be great to open up "The Store of Opportunity". A place where people could go and shop for opportunities that would lead to life affirming careers with decent money. It would be especially great for all those career changers who would love to find the RIGHT job for a change. There would be no restrictions on age, gender or experience. For example, if a retiree wants to drive race cars for a living, this store would provide the opportunity to fulfill that dream.
I'd sell brains, because people seem to be lacking in them these days...
music. or books. And it would have lots of windows and photographs of different things. and quotes from people painted on the walls. and there would be a cafe that sells caramel lattes (: and iced coffee and muffins. hmmm.
I'd like to own an art supplies store. I can't draw or paint to save myself but I LOVE art supplies and some day I'd like to do some sort of art classes. I bought myself a box of gouache last time I was buying school supplies for my kids. I have no idea what gouache is but the box was so colourful and the word gouache sounded lovely. :-)

It I owned a store I would sell common sense & a will to sacrifice would be thrown in, like buy one, get one free. ~Mary
well, i've always loved used bookstores. i find such neat old, rare editions of books in those places. i can spend hours looking through them, and always find great additions to my collection at home.
i also love stores where i can buy used music CDs and movies on DVD. it's the lesser known stuff that can be found in the small, independent stores. music and films that are rare or out of print, and that aren't available at the big chain stores.
my ideal store would deal in all three of these things. i'd be surrounded by things i love and know quite a bit about. i would also have access to rare and unusual books and music for my own collection. and i would get to meet and talk with people with similar interests, learning new things in the process.
The store of healing, dreams, and art would be open for business, with books and music everywhere. Everyone would be welcome!
I have always want to have a second hand store to sell clothing and other items. Now thanks to the internet, my dream has been realized!
It would sell my Jewelry, my sister's artwork, my sister-in-laws quilt, and my mother's art.
It would be a used book store. I love talking to fellow readers. Also, you can enjoy the inventory without diminishing the resale value.
It would hold everything- well, almost. One side would be a bookstore with a cafe area and a bar and small stage for local bands and slam poetry contests. This side would face a plaza with a small market for us to be the ingrediants for the cafe. People could watch the acts from the second floor balcony where there would be more books. There's be a courtyard for the festivities to be continued outside in good weather, and an extention of the cafe. Beyond that, facing a body of water, it doesn't matter what, there'd be an antique shop on the first floor, selling works by local artists, and on the second floor vintage and clothes and jewelry by local designers. On the boardwalk outside- you guess it, more cafe. And I would live on the 3rd floor above it all.
If I had a store and IF it was possible, I would sell superpowers. I mean, who wouldn't want to be able to turn invisible and fly over the city for a day? People would come from all over the world!
Other stores
Toilet paper.
Have you ever seen a store speacialized in toilet paper? Well my store could be first one. I could sell toilet paper with diferent colours, smells, sizes and even with crosswords or sudoku on it.
I would sell my crafts. I make wreaths, cross stitch and paint. I would open a store that would sell all these things and take special orders to personalize the items for people.
Ok, I must admit! I had this posted on one of my early Feb. blog posts, Daydreams and Such, so I cheated this morning!
I [would love to] own a small Tea Shoppe in town that people love to come visit and have some "conversation and tea". It is stocked with books for browsing, homemade herbal blends, and a little bit of magic for the curious visitor.
If I had a store, it would sell lots that is purple and lots that are butterflies. In honor of my late daughter who loved both. And angel things, and chocolate and coffee...and hope, if only I could find a way....
@ I would definitely buy inner peace, toilet paper, used books and some superpowers, so my store is superfluous.
But I would "sell" yoga to kids in my store. I teach a kid yoga class now and the difference between "before" and "after" is.. In a word? Amazing. Self confidence. Imagination. Patience. Peace&Quiet. The ability to self-calm. Bonding with Mom or Dad.
Simply amazing, and I would love every child to have it.
I would sell a new concept of religion.
What a great site! I think I might use the idea in my creative writing class.
It I had a store, I'd sell popular books and movies that most kids love and know by heart but that would have some radically different alterations in them to force them to look at something they think they knew and then get a fresh perspective on them. You could change the ending of "Goonies" for example or have Data do the Truffle Shuffle instead of Chunk. Trickery, I guess, but for a good cause. New the blogosphere--glad I found this.
T-Shirt Tapas!
Everyone has at least one amazing idea for a fun t-shirt in them. My store would be a physical place where they could come in with an idea, and walk out wearing an amazing shirt, or ten.
My store sells products to make life better for the buyer. Product names are Focus 40 PTU, Think and grow Rich, and The Create A Noe program. Yes, my store is a bookstore. A bookstore based on all things positive. Robert Allen, Wayne Dyer, Napoleon Hill, Sam Cameron, Chuck Bartok, Mark Johnson to name a few authors and creators. I enjoy my store.
A different answer could be had to this everyday. Today, if I were to open a store, I would sell specialty, local food. What's in season, where we live. Specialty cheeses. Wine to match. And baked goods. Not the same selection everyday, more whatever I felt like baking. Because what the heck, in this imaginary world, it doesn't have to be profitable!
I'd sell anything and everything to bring a smile to your face--books you know and love, movies you treasure and can recite every line of dialogue to, the best cup of coffee you've ever had, pictures of cute animals doing cute things.
As I read through the posts , I was so impressed with the level of imagination and passion.
I applaud you all,

oh my gosh, cake!
i agree, the best answer.
If I Owned a Store
Every shelf would hold the loveliest of things
Filled just with the produce that the season brings
There’d be hot bread and slices and cinnamon rings
If I Owned a Store
There’d be all sorts of vegetables, tied up with twine,
And spices and condiments, arranged in a line,
A cheese room, of course, and a cellar of wine.
If I Owned a Store
Every customer would be my very best friend;
There’d be lots of real coffee, and not the pretend;
And jars of confectionery in rows that don’t end.
If I Owned a Store
All the fittings would be fashionably antique,
The paint would be aged and the floorboards squeak.
It’s a lovely idea but I’d be broke in a week
If I Owned a Store.
