How it works

Who's got the time to journal daily? You do.

1. Read the daily writing prompt.
2. Push "Play" on the timer on the right side of the screen.
3. Spend 60 seconds or less writing a response to the daily prompt.

You may respond in the "Comments" section of each post, if your response is family-friendly. Or you can write in your own journal or blog. If you respond in a public blog post, please use Mister Linky to share it with us. (See this post for more details.) Also feel free to use the "Comments" section for informal discussion about the responses that are posted.

Today, take a minute to write!

Note from C. Beth: On vacation

Hi, One-Minute Writers!

Our family is out of town for Christmas. I'll be returning to The One-Minute Writer on December 28.

In the meantime, please feel free to browse old posts and write responses to them. (As I'm writing this on Saturday afternoon, no one has yet written a Friday Fiction this week!

Please note...unfortunately I can't turn off comment moderation because I still get a lot of spam comments (despite Blogger's much-appreciated automatic spam filter.) I'm pretty sure most of you don't want to hear about esc0rt services and cheap pharmaceut1cals any more than I do. So if you leave comments while I'm gone, there may be quite a delay before they are published. Thanks for understanding!

Merry Christmas, and happy holidays!

If the book I am reading is delicious, I eat it. Quickly. Late into the night, I'll be exhausted the next day, read until my eyes won't stay open anymore gulps.

If I start in and don't like it. I read a few bites and then it sits like leftovers on my dresser gathering dust.

One-Minute Writing of the Week: Pamela

I choose one of the daily winning response from each week and feature it as the One-Minute Writing of the Week. This is for the week of 11/7-11/13.

One-Minute Writing of the Week:
Writer: Pamela (Wednesday's winner)

Prompt: Fear. What do you do when you're afraid?

I'm always afraid every time I'm on a plane. When the plane starts shaking, I would take out my liquid eyeliner and force myself to apply the most perfect cat's eye line on my lids. After that I would swipe on a red lipstick, back and forth, back and forth until the shaking stops. The whole process distracts me from my fear. When I get off the plane, though, I look like a clown.

Congratulations, Pamela! You're welcome to put a One-Minute Writing of the Week Winner button on your blog. Click here if you'd like to snag it.

I choose one of the daily winning response from each week and feature it as the One-Minute Writing of the Week. This is for the week of 10/31-11/6.

One-Minute Writing of the Week:
Writer: Hank (Saturday's winner)

Prompt: School. Describe a particular room or area of a school that you attended.

My high school was an ancient four story building. Well worn grooves in the stairs spoke of the innumerable footfalls over the decades. My favorite place was across the street where I could smoke with the other cool kids. I was sixteen. I knew everything. I wondered why I was wasting my time there and impatiently waited for the day I was old enough to strike out on my own.

Boy, did I have a rude awakening.
