Today's Writing Prompt: Warm

Write about something warm! It's a whopping 23* here in PA; I need something to dream about!

What's nicer on a chilly morning with a drift of snow on the outside window sill, than the cocooned space around you in bed, under the covers which are loosely tucked. The old "snug as a bug in a rug" is the feeling. And who wants to throw back those covers and face that day? Well, maybe I do because it's pretty out and, with hot coffee and warm toast in the tummy and sufficient warm clothes, a bit of brisk air on my nose and cheeks is also delightful. Winter mornings can be very good times!

You are running through the thick sand, the warm sun baking on your bare skin. Between volley ball tournaments you take a replenish in the salty ocean. Walking back to the towels, you lie down on a towel and absorb the sun rays while reading your favorite book.

My friend Abbey in Philly says it's 23 degrees & wants me to write something to warm her up. I look out the window at my 17 degrees, remember that yesterday was single digits, and last night we were at 8-12 below.

Dear Abbey: count your (almost tropical) blessings.

Ron I was going to write the same thing! I think tonight we're headed for -20. Yeesh! 23 Actually sounds warm, when it gets to that temp around here all the kids get outside to play :)

And yet I know my family in California are all freaking out becaue they had a terrifying cold snap recently with nighttime temps down by freezing. GASP!

It's allll in the perspective.

Warm is the comfy chair closest to the fireplace. Fire crackling and hot. My down throw wrapped around my shoulders and a cup of hot tea to hold. Oh, and writing from my laptop for a minute from that very chair.

Feeling all warm and fuzzy inside his body, Dee sat down to play her 1972 Fender Telecaster, singing,

"Touch me all through the night,
it feels so right,
take it off, take it off.
Take that silly look off,
off your face and teach me how to play...
play me, play with me.
Play with me now.

I always dreaded frigid Winter weather. So I bought a house with fireplaces upstairs and down, installed gas logs, added insulation, caulked, and put rolled rugs in front of the doors to stop drafts. Next I bought a heated waterbed with thick quilts and comforters. After work I would turn my car heater up full blast all the way home. I bought long underwear for shoveling snow and stocked up on hot chocolate and soup. I was going to be warm in Winter!

Then Gulf Coast friends called to report how warm it was there - 70 degrees with warm breezes wafting off the Gulf. I could hear birds chirping over the phone. My friends went on to describe their life in Paradise with palm trees, white sand, and a slower pace. Suddenly I knew what I had to do - move South!

That was eight years ago. Now I'm settled into a small beach town in SW Florida where palm trees, orchids, and vegetables grow year-round. Most days I wear shorts and sandals, occasionally a jacket and long pants. Goodbye snow and ice - hello warm winters forever!

Oh Ron! and Sonnet!! Ok, ok, it's not so bad. Actually, it is not. I have a warm house and a warm coat! And that is much more than some others have, isn't it!?

Warm is the content feeling I have on a Friday night, when there is no looming anxiety about work or projects that must be completed. Just staying warm and cozy at home with a good movie and good company--that's a good warm feeling.
