When I am doing it, I want myself to be heard, to be understood, to be calmed. But when someone else is doing it, then I just want to run away from there. I know it's just mean but that's the case with everyone. Isn't it?
I have the floor, the spot light is on, I’m giving the performance of my life; it is all about me! But wait no one is paying attention. No one cares. “Listen to me!” I am alone playing to an audience of one, and even I can’t stand to listen anymore.
When I'm whining I want some cheese with it! I am really not a whiner but every once in a while that moan escapes my lips and out it comes...complaints or a sob story. It feels good to let it go. Then I bake cookies for the poor ears that had to hear my whining!
Listening to whining makes me feel sad for the person complaining. Although I know the person will be better for "getting it out," I can feel the pain and it makes me sad the person is hurting.
But then I feel better when I can empathize, smile, give a hug and/or say something hopeful, and lastly, feel grateful for all I have. :)
